San Diego’s housing and homelessness crisis affects us all

Homelessness comes at the end of a long path where many social systems have broken down – the toxic stress families live in as a result of lack of access to healthy food and affordable housing.

Local business owners see this first hand around their offices and stores, giving them a unique pulse on this crisis. They’re often the first to hear from their customers, employees and neighboring shops when homelessness conditions improve or worsen.

As such, local business owners have a powerful role to play in creating policy change that has a real impact.

Think Dignity Summer Distribution Event

Sunday, July 30, 2023
Time: 8:00 am – 12:00 PM PDT
Location: Downtown San Diego, CA 92101
(Exact Location TBD)

Volunteer with fellow Business For Good members at Think Dignity’s Summer Distribution drive to hand out Dignity Packs with essential toiletries for the hot summer weather.

Volunteers can support in one of two ways:

Stationary Site – Tables are set up as hygiene and supply stations where guests can freely select items they need. Volunteers will oversee and restock stations while supporting guests with their selections. Please note that this group requires volunteers who are able to stand/stay on site for a 3-4 hour period.

Street Outreach Teams – These teams will walk to nearby areas/encampments with carts filled with hygiene items, food, water, and resources to distribute them to unhoused individuals who are unable to travel to our stationary site. Please note that this group requires volunteers who are able to walk/travel to various nearby locations within a 2-3 hour period.

  • Reviewing community planning groups’ transparency to better inform citywide development projects
